Section 504 Of The Rehabilitation Act Of 1973
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a nondiscrimination statute enacted by the United States Congress. The purpose of Section 504 is to prohibit discrimination and to assure that disabled students have educational opportunities and benefits equal to those provide non-disabled students. It is the policy of the Hallsville Independent School District to provide a free appropriate education to each handicapped student with in its jurisdiction, regardless of the nature or severity of the handicap. It is the intent of the District to ensure that students, who are handicapped within the definition of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, are identified, evaluated, and provided appropriate educational services. Referrals for Section 504 services should be directed to the campus principal or counselor. The district's Section 504 coordinator is Ann Talley Newell, Director of Special Programs, 668-5990, extension 5019, Hallsville ISD Administration Building.
