Hallsville ISD Closure Extended to April 13th, 2020

  • The City of Longview and Gregg County have issued mandatory orders for residents to Shelter-in-Place for the next two weeks, beginning Thursday, March 26 at 11:59 p.m., and lasting through Thursday, April 9 at 11:59 p.m. As a result, HISD will be closed until April 13th. We have several students and staff members who live in the City of Longview. As we discussed last night on our Facebook live event, this situation remains very fluid and has rapidly changed from day to day.

    We will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and local health authorities to do what is in the best interest of our staff, students and the community in order to keep us as safe and healthy during this time. We will also continue our Facebook live event every Tuesday at 5:30 pm to keep you informed on district status and provide information regarding available resources. Thank you for your patience and prayers for us all as we continue to navigate this situation together as a team.

Governor Abbott Issues Executive Orders

  • The following orders have been issued by Governor Abbott: 

    • Order No. 1: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, every person in Texas shall avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.

    • Order No. 2: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts, or visiting gyms or massage parlors; provided, however, that the use of drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options is allowed and highly encouraged throughout the limited duration of this executive order.

    • Order No. 3: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall not visit nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.

    • Order No. 4: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, schools shall temporarily close.

    These orders will be effective on a statewide basis starting at 11:59 PM on March 20, 2020 and will end at 11:59 PM on April 3, 2020, subject to extension thereafter based on the status of COVID-19 in Texas and the recommendations of the CDC.

Continuity of Instruction During School Closure

  • In an effort to provide instruction and not have to make-up days during the summer time, schools are allowed to create plans that ensure all students have access to instruction throughout short-term closures. The Instructional Leadership Team is working to create a reasonable Continuity of Instruction Plan that will meet that requirement without putting undue stress on our staff, parents, or students.

    Please be on the lookout for communication about that plan by checking email at least one time per day and responding to any return communication needed from campus or district leadership. Once we have implemented our plan, we also ask that staff be available to parents and students by email once per week day for instructional questions that may arise.

    In the meantime, stay well and know that everyone's well-being remains our top priority.

At-Home Learning

  • Dear Hallsville ISD Parents & Guardians,

    I hope that this letter finds you well as we all try to wrap our minds around the challenges of COVID-19 (coronavirus). While the health and safety of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority, we also want to help our students learn as much as they can until school is able to resume.

    To that end, our teachers have created a site filled with content and resources for what we are missing during the current two-week closure. The goal of this site at this time is to expose students to as much content as we can and to prevent students from regressing while we are out. What is provided in the site will certainly not fully replace what our teachers would be able to provide in the classroom, but it does provide basic ways to engage in learning. You can access this portal at https://learn-at-home.hisd.com.

    You will not find any assignments or work that requires grades at this time. Additionally, you should not be required to print anything. We understand that many of us do not have access to printers or the Internet at home, so we have used a site that is accessible by phone or any other device that your family might have at home.

    This is a short-term plan, intended to keep our kids engaged this week and next. If the school closure has to go longer than currently expected, our At-Home Learning plan will be adjusted to be more comprehensive and to meet our needs in the best way possible during this unusual time.

    Most of all, please know that we want you to be able to focus on the health and well-being of your family. The goal is not for every student to complete every activity. We just hope that by selecting some of the activities from each course, our students can stay connected and as on-track as possible.

Hallsville Feeding the Community

    We're moving the lunch pick-up to North elementary rather than the high school. Pickup will now be at 200 Billie Martin Pkwy, Hallsville, TX 75650

    Hallsville ISD will be handing out sack lunches for students between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon beginning Tuesday. PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT ID NUMBERS when picking up lunches. This will be in front of High School at 616 Cal Young Rd, Hallsville, TX 75650.

Fri Mar 13 17:24:33 CDT 2020: COVID-19 Update

  • Hallsville ISD schools will be closed from March 16, 2020 through March 27, 2020, for the safety and well-being of our staff and students due to the potential spread of the COVID-19. During this time period, our district will be working to provide instructional support for students at home and will also be working on a plan to distribute student meals during this time. That information will be available the first part of next week as we are working on those details now. Staff and students are highly encouraged to stay home, and avoid any large public gatherings and again, anyone who presents symptoms as outlined by the CDC related to the coronavirus should report immediately to their healthcare provider.

    Cancellation of school for HISD includes suspension of ALL UIL activities and extracurricular activities. It also includes cancellation of all sporting events and after school practices. UIL has already issued a statewide suspension of these activities. Please remember during this time it is important to practice good hygiene and handwashing to avoid the spread of germs.

    At this time, staff and students will need to plan on returning to school on March 30, 2020, unless it is deemed necessary to further suspend all activities and school cancellations. Information will continue to be posted on our website and social media outlets. Please take this time to focus on the health and safety of your family and loved ones.

Thu Mar 12 16:28:12 CDT 2020: COVID-19 Update

  • We know there is a lot of information out right now regarding the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Please know that we are very closely and carefully monitoring this situation and that the health and safety of our students, staff and community is our top priority. At this time, there is one reported case of COVID-19 in our immediate east Texas area. The CDC is reporting that the vast majority of our United States population has a low risk of exposure to this virus. However, given the recent report in a neighboring city, and knowing the amount of social media traffic COVID-19 is receiving, we want to share the current steps that Hallsville ISD is taking to make sure our students, staff and campuses remain safe.

    HISD regularly cleans and disinfects our classrooms, campus doors, student desks, water fountains, door knobs, school bus seating, locker rooms, student and staff restrooms, etc., each and every day. Also, beginning immediately, all out-of-district trips involving students and/or staff are being reevaluated to determine if there are unnecessary risks in regards to COVID-19 exposure. Should any trips be considered a potential risk, they will be postponed or cancelled until the potential threat of COVID-19 exposure subsides.

    We have also been in close communication with our local health and medical officials. As of now, we have been informed that our area is still considered as a “low risk” area but this situation is very fluid and obviously can change quickly. As of today, March 12th, 2020 our schools will be open and classes will resume as normal on Monday, March 16th, 2020.

    It is very important if you or your family members have traveled out of the country recently or have been on a cruise ship and are presenting the following symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath (these are not all but are the main symptoms of the virus) you need to go to your local healthcare provider and be screened. We have been informed at this time that healthcare providers will not see patients who are asymptomatic. It is highly recommended that you should stay home and “self-quarantine” for 14 days.

    We encourage all employees and students of HISD, as well as members of the community, to use common sense and regular hand washing and hand sanitizer to prevent the spread of all illnesses.

    In the event that school is cancelled, information will be sent out via our district wide phone communication system. Official communication will come from the Superintendent’s office only. There have been “tweets” and other information put out that are not from the district.

    This letter is official and from the superintendent. False information that is put out may cause major problems and will not be tolerated. It could potentially lead to prosecution for disruption of governmental communication and operations.
