Hallsville ISD offers a full range of courses in both the Performing and Visual Arts. The courses are tightly aligned to the state required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) starting in kindergarten through twelfth grade to provide enriching and optimal opportunities for students as they pursue their interests in the arts.
All programs are vertically integrated to ensure students gain optimal knowledge and resources to prepare for the next level of coursework and performance. Currently, our high school music programs and theatre are competitive in all aspects of UIL competition while the secondary Visual Arts programming is highly competitive in both regional and national venues.
BAND
Through large group, small group, and individual instruction, Hallsville ISD Band students are instructed in the essential elements of mental and physical discipline; citizenship through group endeavor; physical conditioning; cultural growth; music theory; proper instrumental technique; creative self-expression; and critical listening for the purpose of making musical value judgements. Band activities include marching and playing, sight-reading, solo work, small ensembles, development of individual instrument technique, concert performance, contest competitions, and public appearances including parades, football games, and concerts.
CHOIR
Students in the Hallsville ISD Choir program are taught various choral music and voice techniques beginning in sixth grade through their senior year. Girls Choir, Tenor/Bass Choir (for boys), and Acapella Choir are taught and include basic sight reading techniques, UIL literature and contests. Hallsville ISD choirs perform several concerts throughout the year and also compete in various UIL competitions at both the All-Region and Alll-State levels.
DANCE
Hallsville ISD students may participate in Dance courses that include basic dance principles such as jazz, hip-hop, ballet, tap, modern, lyrical, fitness education, social dance, choreography, and production. Students also learn dance terminology, the history of dance, and various techniques of stretching and choreography. The Bobcat Belles dance/drill team is for students with advanced dancing skills. The Belles perform at all varsity football games and at selected home basketball games, and also highlight the spring with the annual Belle Show. Students must audition for selection to Belles before a panel of judges each year.
THEATRE
The Hallsville ISD Theatre Department provides students with learning and performance opportunities in the art of theatre, including teaching confidence, storytelling, acting and production. Hallsville High School hosts 2-3 shows every year, with two fall shows and competition in UIL One Act Play. Students learn about acting on stage, as well as various aspects of backstage production and technical aspects of performances.
VISUAL ARTS
Students in Hallsville ISD are taught the various aspects of visual art to inspire and cultivate a student's individual talents in the arts. Whether it be drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, graphic design, or other various art forms, students are allowed to learn and create their own works which are displayed throughout the year on campus. Students may also participate in Art Club at Hallsville High School, which decorates the school, teaches art classes, and participates in multiple art competitions and events throughout the year.
