National Merit Scholarship Program

Hallsville High School seniors Landon Burbick and Morgan Roberts have been named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students received a Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program. Commended Students are recognized for their academic achievements, though they will not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards.

Nationwide, about 34,000 students earned the Commended Student honor, placing them among the top 50,000 of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” a spokesperson for NMSC said in a statement. “These students represent a valuable national resource, and recognizing their accomplishments, along with the key role their schools play, is vital to advancing educational excellence. We hope this recognition broadens their educational opportunities and encourages them to continue pursuing academic success.”

Congratulations to Landon and Morgan for this wonderful honor!
