Voters Approve Hallsville ISD Bond Package

In an overwhelming show of support, Hallsville ISD voters approved the school district bond proposition
on the November 5 ballot. According to preliminary results provided by the Harrison County Elections
Office, 54% of voters approved the bond package. With the passage of the bond election, the district
now has authorization for $55,000,000 to be used for the construction of a new elementary school, a
new high school auditorium, safety upgrades and renovations to the Junior High, and district-wide
improvements.

Voters also approved $3,000,000 to refund and replace Maintenance Tax Debt with I&S Tax Debt, which
provides approximately $605,000 of M&O funds to pay for things such as staff raises, buses, and
additional preventative maintenance.

“It’s an exciting time for Hallsville ISD. This bond will relieve overcrowding while providing our students
and staff with high-quality learning environments and facilities they deserve,” said Hallsville ISD
Superintendent Jeff Collum. “I am appreciative of the time spent by our board members and Hallsville
ISD leadership assessing the needs of the district and developing a plan for the future. I would also like
to thank the members of the Bond Steering Committee for their time and input, along with all of the
community members who came out to learn about the bond proposal, ask questions, and provide
feedback during this process.”

As a graduate of Hallsville High School, HISD School Board President Jay Nelson said he is looking
forward to the seeing the positive impact this bond will have on students and the community for years
to come.

“I am so grateful for each and every community member, HISD staff member, and parent who took time
out of their busy schedule to vote in this election,” said Nelson. “Our community takes pride in our
schools and wants the very best for our students – the results of this election reflect that.”
Hallsville ISD will begin the design process for the bond projects in the upcoming months, and
construction is scheduled to begin after that. For more information and updates on each of the projects,
