HHS PSAT/NMSQT Testing

August 29, 2019

Parents,

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered to all sophomores at Hallsville High School during the school day on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. All sophomore students will automatically be registered to take the exam, and there is no fee to take the exam.  Hallsville ISD will pay for students to take the PSAT/NMSQT one time only.  Additional testing will be at the student’s discretion and will be the student’s responsibility.

In addition to practicing for the SAT, this exam also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) for juniors. The NMSQT provides students the opportunity to earn recognition and financial assistance through scholarship programs administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. There is no make-up date for this exam, so if a student is absent, they will miss this opportunity.  More information and practice tests on the PSAT can be found at PSAT.  More information about the National Merit Scholarship Program can be found at NMSP.

Homeschooled students are eligible to take the PSAT/NMSQT with students enrolled at Hallsville High School. If you are interested in PSAT/NMSQT testing for a homeschooled student, please complete the Google Form below, and the High School testing coordinator, Aimee Lee, will contact you with more registration details.  Please be prepared to provide the following required documentation:

  • The driver's license, state ID, or birth certificate of the student requesting to test
  • Proof of residency
    • Recent Harrison County tax statement
    • Current rental/lease agreement

All homeschooled students’ requests to test are due by Friday, September 13, 2019 at noon to allow sufficient time for material ordering.
