Bobcat Corner Created to Fill a Need

It’s often said that "it takes a village," but sometimes it just takes a dedicated group of leaders who see a problem and refuse to look away in order to get the “village” involved. At Monday night’s board meeting, we would recognized the visionary team behind the launch of Bobcat Corner: staff members Carolyn Thompson, Abby Drewery, Karla Carr, Victoria Upchurch, and Tammy Edwards, along with students Gisele Parra and Elizabeth Wilbanks.
The idea for the Bobcat Corner was born out of observation and heart. These individuals noticed that the weekend food backpacks, meant to bridge the gap for students in need, weren't quite full enough to provide the security our students deserve. Rather than waiting for someone else to step in, they took the initiative to create an on-campus pantry that provides nutritional support, hygiene essentials, and school supplies. They even have plates, bowls, and silverware available! In addition, the community has shown tremendous support by donating items for our students.
By founding Bobcat Corner, they have created more than just a pantry; they’ve created a safety net built on dignity and community care. Their work ensures that our students can focus on being students, rather than worrying about their next meal or basic needs.
On behalf of our students, our campus, and our community, we want to thank you for your leadership, your hard work, your compassion, and for making sure every Bobcat has what they need to thrive!
