Hallsville High School celebrated a historic moment this week as former Bobcat and current Boston Red Sox pitcher Justin Slaten’s jersey was formally inducted into the HHS Athletics Hall.

Slaten, a 2016 graduate of Hallsville High School, holds the distinction of being the first Hallsville alumnus to play Major League Baseball.

Athletic Director Cody Farrell and head baseball coach Chris Whatley spoke with great pride about Slaten’s accomplishments and the example he continues to set for Hallsville athletes. Former head baseball coach Scott Mitchell also shared heartfelt words, praising Slaten’s relentless work ethic and his commitment to remembering where he came from.

A humbled Slaten expressed gratitude to the administration and his former coaches for their support throughout his journey. Speaking directly to the young athletes in attendance, he encouraged them to work hard, stay focused, and never give up on their dreams.
