Cindy Hawbaker

I am happy to be a part of the East Elementary family. I have been in Education and a teacher for more than 10 years and a Librarian Media Specialist since 2016. I enjoy cultivating an environment that creates a love of reading and connection with my students, staff and community.   

My favorite children's books are Chysanthemum and Because of Winn Dixie.   As a child, I loved the book, Stuart Little. Books are like windows and mirrors, windows to see outside into the world and mirrors to reflect our life.   

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University and a Master's Degree in Library Media Science from Sam Houston State University.

I am grateful to be a part of students' lives and the amazing team in our library.  I believe I am not only making a difference in my students but with their families and our community. We are always looking for volunteers in the library.  I can be reached at ext. 1635 and at chawbaker@hisd.com
