  • Our goal is to ensure that we provide vision, leadership and expertise in the development of curricular and instructional systems and programs that are research based, student-centered and address the standards outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and English Language Proficiency standards (ELPS).

  • The goal for the HISD Assessment Department is to provide a system of support through training, data management, and information dissemination for state and local assessments.

    District Assessment:

    • Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA2): The DRA2 is a research-based assessment utilized by Hallsville ISD to determine students' independent reading levels.  Hallsville ISD uses this tool as an ongoing assessment to inform instruction.  It enables teachers to systematically observe, record, and evaluate changes in student reading performance levels.  The DRA2 is administered three times a year for grades K-3 and on an as-needed basis for grades 4-12.


    • Curriculum Based Assessment (CBA):  This is a district level examination created by designated grade level assessment writers to monitor mastery of TEKS covered each 9 weeks as determined by grade level curriculum writers.  

    State Assessment:

    • STAAR

      In 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). All students in grades 3-8 will take a STAAR Assessment in reading and math each year. Students in grades 4 and 7 will also be tested in writing. Students in grades 5 and 8 will be tested in science and students in grade 8 will be tested in social studies. High school students will take STAAR End of Course (EOC) in the following subjects: English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and U S History.
