Jeff Collum, Superintendent of Schools

  • Jeff Collum Mr. Collum has served as a professional educator for the past twenty four years. He began his career as a teacher/coach and Athletic Director in Beaumont, Texas. Throughout his career he served in the following roles, which he believes prepared him to serve as the superintendent today: Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, Junior High Assistant Principal, High School Principal, Director of Student Services, Executive Director of Secondary Schools. Mr. Collum is beginning his ninth year as a superintendent after serving four years in Arkansas and beginning his fifth in Texas.

He is married to Cara Collum, his wife of fifteen years, and she is also a professional educator. Together they have three sons: Caleb, Elijah and Causey Collum. He loves spending time with his wife and boys and watching them play sports, enjoying the outdoors and traveling when time allows. Jeff is the son of two lifelong educators. His late father, Jerry P. Collum served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal for over twenty years. His mother, Carol A. Collum (Miller) served as an early childhood educator for over forty years.

Mr. Collum has been very fortunate in his career to be named the “Administrator of the Year” twice in two different states, both Texas and Arkansas - once in Tyler ISD and once in Benton, Arkansas. During his tenure in Hallsville ISD the district has successfully passed a $55,000,000 bond for district wide improvements, a new West Elementary school and a new High School auditorium. In addition to the 5,000 traditional students who attend the brick and mortar campuses, the district has also expanded their Texas Virtual Academy Hallsville (TVAH) to serve approximately 10,000 students across the state of Texas. Also, staff salaries and benefits are more competitive in the district than ever before……thanks to the vision, hard work, and dedication of a united school board.

“I am extremely humbled to serve as the superintendent of Hallsville ISD. It is hard to believe that almost eighteen years ago I taught in the district as a junior high teacher and coach. I knew then how special this place really is. I always imagined if the opportunity presented itself again to come home and work, live and raise my family in this district that I definitely would pursue that opportunity. There are a lot of exciting things happening in our district today. Come check us out either online or in person. We have the best staff in the state and continually focus on striving for excellence in education. I think you will like what you see!!! Check us out at or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
