Meet the Board

  • Jay Nelson, President (Place 3)

    Jay Nelson Jay Nelson is a graduate of Hallsville High School and Texas A&M University with a BBA in Accounting. Mr. Nelson and his wife, Jennifer - also a HHS graduate, have four children, Jayla - HHS Class of 2016, James - HHS Class of 2017, Justice - HHS Class of 2020, and Jaryn - HHS Class of 2022. Mr. Nelson is the Vice President of Finance and Administration for STS Consulting Services, LLC.

    He is excited about the growth of HISD and wants to be involved in the process to maintain the high quality education of the district and pursue excellence in all areas for students success.

    Dale Haney, Vice President (Place 7)

    Dale Haney is a 1993 graduate of Hallsville High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp for six years until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Dale earned his Associates of Applied Science from Kilgore College. He currently works as a Welder/Machinist at Pirkey Power Plant. He is a co-owner of Extended Family Preschool in Hallsville with his wife Jessica Haney. Jessica also graduated as Salutatorian of Hallsville High School in 1999. Dale currently serves as Vice President.

    Dale and Jessica have two children attending Hallsville ISD, Case Haney who is in 6th grade at Hallsville Junior High and Tessa Haney who is in Kindergarten at North Elementary. He is an active member of Hallsville United Methodist Church and a member of Hallsville’s Masonic Lodge. He loves Hallsville and wants to see the best opportunities available for all children.

    Troy Crafton, Secretary (Place 6)

    1997 Hallsville High School Graduate, BBA from Univeristy of North Texas in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. I enjoy coaching, playing golf, vacations with family and Texas A&M Football. Married to Tiffany Crafton, a 1994 graduate of Hallsville High School and teaches at Hallsville Intermediate. We have three kids. Kylie (19) 2015 Hallsville graduate currently at Texas A&M. Trey (11) who is in 6th grade at Hallsville Junior High. Ty (2) who is a future Hallsville Bobcat.

    I feel that Hallsville ISD is not only one of the best schools in the East Texas but the entire state of Texas. We have the best teachers, administrators and kids.

    Jason Ainsworth, Assistant Secretary (Place 5)

    Jason Ainsworth has lived in the Hallsville school district for most of his life. He has served on the school board since May of 2010. Ainsworth and his wife, Paula, have 2 children, Jarrett and Jaydin.

    Jason is a 1998 Hallsville ISD graduate and has worked for the family business for 22 years, having begun while in the work program at Hallsville High School.

    Lee Gaw, Trustee (Place 4)

    Lee Gaw graduated from Marshall High School and received a BBA degree from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M Commerce. Lee is married to Kathy Gaw who is the HISD Director of Career and Technical Education. They have two sons, Christopher and Michael who are both graduates of Hallsville High School and the University of Texas at Tyler. Christopher and his wife Halie are the parents of their beautiful granddaughter Ava.

    Lee is honored to serve as a Trustee of the Hallsville Independent School District and very proud of the accomplishments our students, faculty, staff, and administrators have made throughout the years.

    Doug McGarvey, Trustee (Place 2)

    Doug McGarvey is a former HISD student where he attended Kindergarten through 12th grade and a graduate of University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He has been employed for 9 years as a Biopharmaceutical Representative at Amgen Biotech. Doug and Kimberly, his wife of 22 years, have four children (Payton 18, Graceyn 17, Paxton 15, and Corbin 14). All four children have attended HISD since Kindergarten.

    The McGarvey’s are active in their church and when not supporting their favorite Bobcats in their numerous extracurricular activities, enjoy traveling and spending time with family.

    Shane Goswick, Trustee (Place 1)

    Shane Goswick is a graduate of Elysian Fields High School and East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Shane is a local small business owner of Precision Turf Lawn and Landscape and a partner in Longview Lights. He and his wife, Courtney, have three children. Miller, Memphis, and McKoy are all Hallsville ISD Bobcats. Shane and his family are involved in their local church, Mobberly Baptist Church. He enjoys playing Baseball, coaching his kids in their extracurricular activities, hunting, and water sports.

    Shane is encouraged with the direction the district is moving and is excited to play a small role in the future of the great students, faculty, and administrators of Hallsville Independent School District. It’s always a great day to be a Bobcat!
