Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kathy Poynor
Hi! I am Mrs. Poynor, and I've been teaching either as a substitute teacher or classroom teacher since 2004. I especially love working with kids who have learning difficulties since my own daughter struggles with multiple learning disabilities. I passionately believe in advocating for the child and the child's best path to success!
I started my adult life in the military serving in the U.S. Navy as a cryptologic technician. This six year span of my life sent me to duty stations in Pensacola, Florida, Okinawa, Japan, and Edzell, Scotland where I took advantage of my locations and traveled extensively. I still love to travel! I followed up my military service with a career as a sales manager for a local corporation where I did Computer Assisted Designing of kitchens and baths. Life intervened after 11 years though after the corporation was sold and restructured leaving me without a job. That's when God intervened and put me on the path to be an educator!
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from U.T.-Tyler then my Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin. I am no longer going to college, but I still consider myself to be a life-long learner, always questioning, learning, and implementing new knowledge that will help my students.
I have been married 26 years, and we have a beautiful daughter who is now 22 years old and who is an amazing landscape and fine art photographer. We live deep in the country with our dogs, cats, and chickens where I love gardening, hiking trails, and reading!
